Sound Escapes: Sympathetic Vibrations Exhibit

Music is Art. Music is all around us. For some it is a major part of the day. For others it may be more subtle, birds chirping and bustling city streets might be all the music they need. February’s exhibit at the Mexican Heritage Center; Sound Escapes: Sympathetic Vibrations is a collection of art pieces that are inspired by music. On display will be visual art, sound art and interactive instruments for the audience to enjoy.
Stockton native Lino Alibani’s musical journey began at seventeen when he acquired his first electric guitar. With an inquisitive mind, he began to disassemble and reassemble the instrument, fascinated with the idea of one day building his own. In high school woodshop he built his first electric guitar. From then on he has created his own custom guitars for use in his music and for clients. In addition to creating guitars, he has developed his own unique instruments. One example, the Resonant Radiator Coils, specially built idiophones that serve multiple functions will emanate tintinnabulations while on display at the gallery. There will be several other exhibits created by Lino on display.
In addition to the main contributing artist, there will be other artists contributing work. Robert Austin is a local artist who has contributed paintings of influential musicians on guitars and canvas.
Please enjoy the artist reception on Friday, February 21st featuring a live performance that will incorporate the use of the unique instruments and take the audience on a Sound Escape.
