In February 2020, the Downtown Stockton Alliance launched our new Safety Ambassador Program.
Safety Ambassadors do not serve as downtown security, but help to provide additional eyes and ears on the streets of downtown. Their duties include engaging and lending a helping hand to those in the Downtown Stockton area.
The hospitality services schedule has three shifts each day, with one safety ambassador on each hospitality service shift. The morning shift is from 7 AM – 3:30 PM; the swing shift is from 5:00 PM – 12:30 AM ; and the graveyard shift is from 12:00 AM – 7:30 AM.
The DSA Safety Ambassadors work closely with Stockton PD, who meet regularly with our Clean & Safe Committee and the Downtown Stockton Business Watch to provide statistics and information on crime downtown.
Learn more about the program and program supervisor, Ace, in our blog article here. The body cam footage below provides a firsthand example of how our Safety Ambassadors help to keep our community safe.
First Call Alarm Program
Many downtown business owners do not live near the downtown area, and are thus unable to quickly respond in the event that their business’s alarms are triggered. To help with this, our Safety Ambassadors also run a First Call Program. This program allows business and property owners to set the DSA Safety Ambassador number as the first number to be alerted when their business alarm sets off. Although the ambassadors do not have the power to take anyone into custody, they can arrive at the scene quickly and try to prevent robbers from taking any items until police arrive.
