Walk with Weber – Walking Tour Introduction

HISTORY

Hello! I’m Manuel Laguna, tour guide and history presenter. Through the years, I’ve had the pleasure of leading many historical walking tours through Downtown Stockton. I consider it a real pleasure to have shared even a little bit of Stockton’s history with so many different groups. Founded in 1849, Stockton was incorporated as a city in 1850. Between 1849 and 1851, Charles M. Weber, Stockton’s founder, mapped out and planned the city several times. His vision was a modern, efficient, and drained city. Of course, his dream did come true, and, in fact, many people that live in Stockton today don’t realize that in its early days, Stockton was a cutting-edge city at the forefront in agriculture, industry, and commerce. My hope is that by taking this self-guided walking tour, you’ll be inspired to want to learn more about the rich history of Stockton, California, the Port City.
