HISTORY

The Episcopal congregation built their first church on this site in 1857. It was built onland donated by Stockton’s founder, Charles Weber. The current building, built in 1889, was a rare example of Nordic architecture. The chancel window from the original church is located above the west entrance. The guild hall, designed by Ernest A. Coxhead, was completed in 1892. St. John’s Parish is the third-oldest episcopal church on the Pacific coast.
