Art of the Loom 2 Leo Angel De Los Angeles – Exhibit

EXHIBITION: AUGUST 5 – 30, 2019
ARTIST RECEPTION: FRIDAY, AUGUST 16 – 5:30 TO 7:30

The grandeur display of the tapestries slightly experiencing their essence here,
are dyed in every ounce of passion that lies within the artists being. His intention
is to amalgamate the elements of the tapestries, which are the colors, forms, &
textures brought together to merge the past with the present. The culmination of
his work is the experience of witnessing a completed piece, in person, and feeling a
connection with the indigenous culture, symbols, ideology and ancestry. The talent
that is evident in his art was realized at a very young age. At the age of 15, he was
considered a “Master Zapotec Weaver,” who designs his pieces perfervidly and
methodically. He takes into consideration various aspects of the tapestry, beginning
with the wool, natural dyes and the concept that it will contain its essence. The
foregoing elements are then transferred to a prodigious loom where the weaving of
dreams will commence. Every string of wool is carefully calculated with discipline
and precision. His indigenous blood is interwoven in the tapestries, demonstrating
his great respect for his culture within every piece. Sharing his spiritual essence
portrayed on his art with open minds who desire a view of a Oaxacan Zapotec culture
what incentive’s his passion.
Participating in the exhibit will be artist Richard Rios and singer Rene Infante.
“The fusion of the past and present among the colors, forms and textures creates not
only a concept, yet unites us in a global culture.”
