BIKE TO WORK RECAP
Thirty cyclists made their way to the Cinema Plaza for Bike to Work Downtown, where they powered up on bagels from the new Bagel Express in Downtown and pastries from the Weber Avenue Bakery. REI Stockton tuned bikes free of charge, shared information about their bicycle maintenance classes and gave away free merchandise. Among the cyclists were Connie Cochran and Florence Low with the City of Stockton and Tim Viall of the Emergency Food Bank, one of three agencies that presented the First Annual the Mayor’s Hike and Bike on Memorial Day Weekend.
Everyday can be Bike to Work Day!
[Commuting by bicycle] "is an absolutely essential part of my day. It's mind-clearing, invigorating. I get to go out and pedal through the countryside in the early morning hours, and see life come back and rejuvenate every day as the sun is coming out."
-- James L. Jones, Obama's appointed National Security Adviser and retired marine general, Stars and Stripes, October 2005
