La Maison

It’s nice to know that fashion, style and class are still in downtown Stockton. La Maison, 240 E. Main Street, sells quality, timeless woman’s clothing that never goes out of style. Alyce Tekerlek opened La Maison women’s fashion store 49 years ago. For the past 47 years, La Maison has been in its present location, right next door to the Bob Hope Theatre. In 1956, Tekerlek opened a dress shop on Pacific Avenue. Downtown Stockton was booming and Alyce decided to open a second store downtown. The downtown store did so well, she closed the Pacific Avenue store and focused her energy there.

Born in Athens, Greece, Alyce Tekerlek came to the United States in 1950.  At three years old, she would watch her mother sew and ask for a needle and thread. Tekerlek dreamed of becoming a dress designer, but realized that would mean relocating to Los Angeles or New York. Instead, she attended Stockton College, married, and had two sons. Along with raising children, Alyce ran La Maison and taught tailoring and sewing for 18 years at Stockton College.

“I have always loved my work,” states Alyce. “I still find pleasure in my customers and I enjoy outfitting the downtown working woman.”

La Maison carries high quality women’s fashions for work, play and evening wear. All purchases at La Maison receive free alterations and layaways are available. Tekerlek has seen many fashions come and go…and come again.  She has many loyal customers and enjoys meeting new clientele. La Maison, (209) 463-7306, is open Monday – Friday, 10 am - 4 pm and Saturdays, 10 am - 3 pm.  Alyce also offers alteration services on your own clothing for a fee.

Stroll by La Maison to see the beautiful window display that changes frequently to showcase a wide variety of clothing. Don’t miss La Maison’s Fall and holiday fashions!
